Prudential Bank Secures GH¢1.13 Billion Investment to Expand Lending and Digital Services

Prudential Bank Limited has completed a GH¢1.13 billion strategic capital investment from Bloom Africa Holdings Ghana Limited after receiving regulatory approval from the Bank of Ghana.

Announced on October 9, 2026, the investment is expected to strengthen the bank’s capital position, increase its capacity to lend to businesses and support investments in technology and digital banking services.

The bank said its capital position now stands well above regulatory minimum requirements, giving it additional financial capacity to pursue its growth plans.

SMEs and corporate businesses targeted for more financing

Prudential Bank said part of the investment would be used to expand lending to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and corporate clients.

Access to financing remains important for businesses seeking to expand operations, purchase equipment, improve production and enter new markets.

With the additional capital, the bank says it will have greater capacity to support customers and businesses while pursuing long-term growth.

The investment is also expected to support improvements in customer experience through upgrades to technology and service delivery.

Bank plans to accelerate digital transformation

Acting Managing Director of Prudential Bank, Ebow Quayson, said the capital injection would strengthen the bank and improve its ability to execute its strategic priorities.

He said the investment would enable the bank to increase spending on technology, improve services, support business expansion and accelerate digital transformation.

The bank expects these initiatives to position it for its next phase of sustainable growth.

Bloom Africa targets a wider African financial services presence

Gabriel Edgal, Board Chairman of Bloom Africa Holdings, said Prudential Bank had established a strong reputation through its understanding of Ghanaian customers, businesses and market conditions.

He said the group intended to build on that foundation as part of a pan-African financial institution connecting businesses to capital and opportunities across the continent.

Mr Edgal added that Africa’s economic growth required strong financial institutions capable of facilitating trade, mobilising capital and helping businesses expand beyond their domestic markets.

Investor already has banking interests in West Africa

Bloom Africa Holdings Ghana Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bloom Africa Holdings Limited, Mauritius, an investment holding company focused on building a financial services platform to facilitate capital flows, trade and investment across Africa.

The group currently has banking investments in The Gambia, Sierra Leone and Liberia, with plans to expand further across West Africa and other strategic markets.

The investment in Prudential Bank adds to the group’s regional financial services interests and provides a foundation for its stated ambition to connect African businesses with wider financing opportunities.

What the investment means for Ghana’s banking sector

The GH¢1.13 billion capital injection gives Prudential Bank additional resources to pursue lending, technology and service improvements.

For businesses, particularly SMEs, the key measure of its impact will be whether the stronger capital position translates into greater access to financing and more responsive banking services.

The transaction also highlights the role of investment in strengthening locally established financial institutions and supporting businesses seeking to grow in Ghana and across African markets.
