Uganda Airlines Begins Accra Flights on October 27, Opening New Travel Option for Ghanaian Passengers

Uganda Airlines will enter Ghana’s aviation market on October 27, 2026, with a new service connecting Entebbe and Accra, giving travellers another option for journeys between West and East Africa.

The Ugandan national carrier will operate four flights a week on the route, with services passing through Lagos, Nigeria. Tickets are already on sale, according to a report by Graphic Online.

The airline’s entry could increase competition on regional travel routes and give passengers more options when comparing ticket prices, flight schedules and connections.

However, whether fares fall significantly will depend on passenger demand, available seats and how competing airlines respond.

More competition for Ghana’s regional travellers

The new service will provide another option for passengers travelling between Ghana and Uganda for business, tourism and family visits.

Travellers may benefit from having an additional airline to compare when planning their journeys, while businesses could gain from improved connections between Accra and East African commercial centres.

For entrepreneurs, investors and service providers, more convenient air travel can make regional meetings, trade missions and business partnerships easier to arrange.

The impact on travel costs will become clearer as the airline establishes its operations and passengers assess its fares, schedules and overall service.

Flight route includes a stop in Lagos

Although Uganda Airlines will connect Entebbe and Accra, the service will operate via Lagos, Nigeria.

Passengers should therefore check the full itinerary, including departure and arrival times, the duration of the stop and the total journey time, before booking.

The additional stop may affect how convenient the service is compared with alternative routes, particularly for travellers prioritising shorter journeys.

The airline’s four-times-weekly schedule will also give passengers another set of departure options when planning travel between the two cities.

What the new route could mean for trade and tourism

The launch comes amid efforts to strengthen economic ties between African countries and improve connections between regional markets.

Better air connectivity can support tourism, business travel and commercial partnerships by making it easier for people to meet across borders.

For Ghana, the service could improve access to Uganda’s tourism and business markets. Ugandan travellers, meanwhile, will have another option for reaching Accra’s commercial, cultural and hospitality sectors.

The route could also support broader ambitions under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which seeks to expand trade among African economies. However, a new flight connection alone does not guarantee an increase in trade; businesses also need competitive transport costs, market access and viable commercial opportunities.

Will ticket prices fall?

The entry of another airline creates the possibility of stronger price competition, particularly if carriers compete for passengers travelling between Ghana and East Africa.

But lower fares are not guaranteed. Ticket prices will depend on demand, operating costs, flight capacity, booking periods and competitors’ pricing decisions.

Travellers should compare the total cost of each itinerary, including any additional fees, as well as journey duration and baggage conditions, rather than focusing on the advertised fare alone.

Uganda Airlines’ entry adds another choice to the market. Whether that translates into cheaper and more convenient travel for Ghanaian passengers will depend on how the new service performs after operations begin on October 27.
