Yango Ride Launches Verified Passenger Badge in Ghana to Boost Driver Safety and Trust

The new feature allows drivers to identify verified passengers before accepting rides as competition intensifies around safety and user confidence in Ghana’s ride-hailing market.

Ride-hailing platform Yango Ride has introduced a new verified passenger badge in Ghana, allowing drivers to identify customers with fully completed profiles before accepting ride requests as the company strengthens safety measures across its platform.

The feature, known as the Completed Passenger Profile Badge, is designed to increase trust between drivers and passengers by displaying a visible verification indicator during the ride acceptance process.

The rollout comes as ride-hailing companies increasingly compete on safety, transparency and user confidence, introducing new technologies aimed at improving the experience for both drivers and customers.

Verified profiles before every ride

Under the new system, passengers who complete their Yango Ride profiles by submitting their name, a selfie and linking a valid bank card receive a verification badge visible to partner drivers when ride requests appear.

The badge gives drivers additional information before deciding whether to accept a trip, particularly during late-night journeys or rides originating from unfamiliar locations.

According to Yango Ride, the feature is intended to reduce uncertainty at one of the most critical moments in the ride-hailing process—when drivers decide whether to take a booking.

Drivers report greater confidence

The company said early feedback from drivers has been encouraging.

According to internal driver surveys, partner drivers reported feeling 40% more confident accepting ride requests from passengers displaying the completed profile badge, especially during nighttime operations or in higher-risk areas.

By making passenger verification visible before a trip begins, Yango believes the feature can strengthen confidence on both sides of the platform while encouraging more users to complete their profiles.

Safety becomes a competitive advantage

The new badge expands Yango Ride’s growing portfolio of safety technologies available throughout the customer journey.

The platform says it now offers more than 25 in-app safety features, including real-time route monitoring, driving behaviour detection, SOS emergency assistance and live trip sharing with trusted contacts.

As digital transport platforms continue expanding across Africa, safety tools are becoming an increasingly important area of competition alongside pricing, driver availability and service quality.

Building trust across Ghana’s ride-hailing market

Speaking on the launch, Tom Ofonime, Country Manager for Yango Ride in Ghana, said trust remains central to every successful ride.

“Every ride starts with trust, and that trust goes both ways between passengers and partner drivers. By making this badge visible before a ride is accepted, we’re giving partner drivers a clear and reliable signal when they need it most. It will help them make informed decisions, strengthen confidence on both sides, and create a safer, more transparent experience for everyone on the platform,” he said.

The company expects the feature to encourage more passengers to verify their identities while helping drivers make better-informed decisions before accepting ride requests.

Yango Ride’s verified passenger badge reflects a broader shift in the ride-hailing industry, where technology companies are investing more heavily in safety, identity verification and transparency.

As competition among ride-hailing platforms intensifies across Ghana and Africa, trust is becoming just as important as affordability and convenience, with digital verification increasingly serving as a key differentiator in attracting both drivers and passengers.
