Students from the University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UNIMAC) organized an entrepreneurship day fair last Saturday, dubbed EDF 2025. The event featured a competition where 50 innovative products were exhibited by aspiring entrepreneurs.
At the end of the competition, Mama’s Blend, an eco-friendly and convenient way of packaging ingredients for preparing waakye—a popular rice and beans dish—emerged as the overall best idea.
About Mama’s Blend
Mama’s Blend simplifies the preparation of waakye by offering a pre-packaged mix of essential ingredients, including powdered shito (pepper mix), waakye cubes, and hibiscus leaf sauce. Designed for students and busy individuals, the product allows for quick and hassle-free meal preparation.
Its high-quality packaging, free from artificial preservatives and additives, impressed the judges, earning it the top spot in the competition.
How to Prepare It
To cook with Mama’s Blend, simply add the desired quantity to boiling water, cook with beans, and add rice once the beans are ready—delivering an authentic waakye experience with ease.
Entrepreneurship Fair Highlights
The annual fair, organized by the Department of Marketing under the Faculty of Public Relations, Advertising, and Integrated Marketing, provides students with a platform to showcase their entrepreneurial skills. A key feature of the event was the pitch competition, where exhibitors presented their business ideas to a panel of judges.
As part of their coursework, students took an active role in planning the event, managing exhibition booths, catering, logistics, and the overall execution of the fair. Beyond competition, the fair served as a networking opportunity, connecting students with investors, mentors, and potential employers for internships and career placements.
Entrepreneurship lecturer, Nii Nookwei Tackie, encouraged students to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and seize business opportunities.
Expressing excitement over their victory, Jehoshabeth Adelaide Amenyah, leader of the Mama’s Blend team, described the win as a major milestone for their group.
