Ghana Signs Dubai Jobs Deal for Up to 5,000 Workers as Employer Covers Flights and Accommodation

Ghana has signed a recruitment agreement with a United Arab Emirates-based company to facilitate overseas employment for up to 5,000 Ghanaian workers, with the employer expected to cover specified travel, visa and accommodation costs.

The agreement involves Masa Depan Building Maintenance L.L.C. and covers opportunities in construction, building maintenance and facilities management.

Labour Minister Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum signed the memorandum of understanding on behalf of Ghana, while the company was represented by its managing director, Junhong Deng.

According to reports, recruitment is expected to begin with an initial batch of 500 workers before expanding in phases based on the company’s staffing requirements.

However, the agreement does not mean that all 5,000 positions have already been filled or that applications are currently open.

What the Dubai Jobs Agreement Covers

Under the reported terms, the employer will be responsible for specified costs associated with recruiting and deploying workers from Ghana to the UAE.

These include:

  1. Air tickets from Ghana.
  2. Visa and work permit expenses.
  3. Medical examinations.
  4. Accommodation.
  5. Wages and insurance, according to the reported arrangement.

The agreement also envisages pre-departure preparation to help workers understand UAE employment rules and workplace safety requirements.

A welfare officer and complaints mechanism are also expected to support workers under the arrangement.

Government to Oversee Recruitment

Ghana’s Labour Ministry is expected to supervise the recruitment process, review employment contracts, coordinate skills assessments and help ensure that prospective workers understand the terms of their employment before travelling.

The government-supervised framework is intended to provide a formal route for overseas recruitment and strengthen protections for workers taking up jobs abroad.

However, the effectiveness of those protections will depend on how the agreement is implemented and how workers’ rights are monitored after deployment.

Salaries and Application Dates Yet to Be Announced

Despite the announcement of opportunities for up to 5,000 workers, several important details remain undisclosed.

These include the salaries on offer, specific qualifications and experience required, application procedures, recruitment deadlines and deployment schedules.

Prospective applicants should therefore wait for official recruitment guidance from the Labour Ministry before submitting applications or making payments to intermediaries.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding establishes a framework for recruitment; it is not an individual job offer or confirmation that applications are open.

What Prospective Applicants Should Know

Ghanaians interested in the opportunities should verify any recruitment announcement through official government channels and carefully review their employment contracts before accepting an offer.

They should also confirm the employer’s identity, job description, salary, working conditions and the exact costs covered by the company.

The agreement could create an overseas employment pathway for Ghanaian workers, but the number of people ultimately recruited will depend on the employer’s requirements and the implementation of the recruitment process.

For now, the initial target is 500 workers, with the possibility of expanding recruitment to as many as 5,000.
