Mr. David Wang, Director of the Board and Chairman of the ICT Infrastructure Managing Board at Huawei, has emphasized that a thriving digital economy requires robust digital infrastructure, particularly widespread connectivity.
Speaking at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2025, where Huawei hosted the Digital Economy Development Forum, Mr. Wang noted that accelerating digital and intelligent transformation across governments and industries would significantly boost economic growth.
The MWC Barcelona 2025, themed “Converge. Connect. Create.”, opened on March 3 and will conclude on March 6, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and technology experts. Huawei’s forum, held under the theme “From Insight to Impact for a Thriving Digital Economy,” attracted international policymakers, industry association heads, consulting experts, and business leaders.
Industry Collaboration and Digital Talent Development
Mr. Wang stressed that future-oriented industry policies play a key role in driving digital economic growth. He highlighted the global shortage of digital talent, calling for more training initiatives to bridge the skills gap in the digital and intelligent sectors.
He also underscored the importance of open and collaborative industry ecosystems, which foster innovation and resilience by allowing global industry players to leverage each other’s strengths.
“A thriving digital economy relies on a wide array of digital technologies,” Mr. Wang stated. “No single country or company can achieve this alone, which is why Huawei remains committed to cross-region collaboration and building strong industry ecosystems.”
The Role of Digitalization in Economic Growth
With more than 170 countries implementing national digital strategies, the digital economy has become a major driver of global economic growth. However, Mr. Wang acknowledged that digitalization remains uneven across different regions, with many facing similar challenges in achieving full transformation.
Mr. Jeffrey Zhou, ICT Marketing President at Huawei, reinforced the company’s commitment to advancing the digital economy.
“Huawei looks forward to working with industry partners to overcome challenges and seize opportunities,” he said. “From insight to impact, we are committed to creating a thriving digital economy.”
Huawei’s Global Digitalization Index, released in 2024, serves as a key tool for countries to assess the maturity of their ICT industries and provides strategic recommendations for digital economic development.
